IAATE Companion Parrot Initiative
Sharing information in an effort to provide optimal care for avian species we steward is an important element of IAATE’s purpose. IAATE has taken the position that this purpose goes beyond the birds found in educational programs and extends to birds cared for as companion animals. Because of this IAATE has developed the Companion Parrot Committee.
“The mission of the IAATE Companion Parrot Committee is to collect and disseminate information on behavior and training in an effort to facilitate optimal care for companion parrots.”
In February 2009 the Companion Parrot Committee held its first meeting. A collection of IAATE members with a special interest in parrots were invited to organize and prepare information for companion bird caregivers. An important goal for the committee is that the information provided adheres to the criteria stated in the IAATE Code of Ethics. This includes providing information that is science based and supports the least intrusive, most positive approach to avian training. IAATE hopes to be an important educational resource to companion parrot caregivers and shares this information freely with no financial interest or gains in return.
This page will be the home page for the information collected and generated by IAATE. Please check back as we begin our work!
