The Avifauna – Van der Valk Hotel is located in the city Alphen a/d Rijn which is uniquely situated between The Netherlands’s major cities: Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Den Haag and Utrecht.

This intimate hotel is a step away from the bird park and the conference center is within the bird park itself.

A restaurant can be found on site and a bar is attached to the hotel. High speed wireless internet access is available.

This unique conference setting provides for comfortable and easy access for everyone to gather information during the day and in the evening, relax, share stories, and network over a beverage.

IAATE has reserved very reasonable room rates for you during your stay. The rates are:

  • 70 euros/person for one person room
  • 42.50 euros/person for two person room
  • 40 euros/person for three or four person room
  • 37.50 euros/person for five person room

  • Tourist tax is 1 euro/person/night

    Theses rates are also valid before or after the conference as long as your stay is continuous. Reservations for this rate must be made by February 19, 2008.

  • TRANSPORTATION

     

    The hotel and conference center is located about half an hour drive from the Schiphol Amsterdam International Airport (AMS). Complimentary buses will be available from the airport to the hotel three times per day on March 4th. A public bus will cost about 5 euros, a train ride will cost about 10 euros and a taxi ride will cost about 50 euros.

    If you chose public bus, take the interliner 370 to Alphen aan den Rijn. Get off at “Albert Schweitzerbrug” stop and continue straight on the footpath, turn right at Hoorn, continue walking until you see Avifauna –Van der Valk Hotel on your left. The walk will take you about ten minutes.

    If you chose to travel by train, take the train to Leiden where you will need to transfer to the train going to Utrecht. The train will stop at the Alphen aan den Rijn station before continuing to its final destination. From the station it’s a thirty minutes walk to the Hotel or you can catch a taxi (phone: +31.172.460000) which will cost about 12 euros.

    There is plenty of parking around the hotel if you plan to drive.


    Things to know!:

  • The weather in March will be cool to cold. With some luck, it will stay dry during the week of our conference.
  • Keep in mind the time change when you are booking your flight. Confirm your arrival time and date before finalizing your purchase.
  • Currency conversion is about 1 euro to 1.35 dollar or 0.67 pound. Exchange rates vary so here is an online calculator.
  • Breakfast will cost about 8 euros and diner about 18 euros per person.
  • Traveling in Europe is not too difficult. Getting around town is relatively easy by walking or with a taxi. Going to other cities is easily accomplished by train.
