TRANSPORTATION

Niagara Falls If you are driving, check out http://maps.yahoo.com. If you are arriving by plane, book your flight to Pearson International Airport (YYZ). The hotel is about a half hour drive from the airport. There is a downtown express shuttle bus that will take you to Union Station for $15.00 CDN. You can walk the two blocks to the hotel or cab it from there. If you walk from Union Station, head one block east to Yonge, cross Yonge, half a block south to the Esplanade, and a half block east to the hotel. Cabs from the airport will be cheaper per person if at least three of you are travelling together. Be sure to tell the cabbie you want the downtown Novotel (there is another one in north Toronto). During your stay in Toronto, you can get around on the subway (TTC) for $2.25 CDN per ride.

IMPORTANT THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE YOU GO…

  • U.S. Citizens: If you don’t have a passport, you can still cross the border with an OFFICIAL birth certificate, citizenship certificate or naturalization certificate ALONG WITH photo I.D. such as a driver”s license.
  • Loonies and Toonies are coins. A Loonie is one dollar, and a Toonie is two dollars. The pretty paper money is real, too. It just doesn’t buy as much as yours.
  • In Celsius, freezing is zero, boiling is 100, body temperature is 37.
  • We sell gas in litres and there are 2.2 kilometres in a mile.
  • Legal drinking age here is 19.
  • The Canadian National symbol is the Beaver.
  • 100 kph = 60 mph
  • Trips to see wild Polar Bears would take a week just to get there. Toronto is nowhere near that far north.
  • Alcohol content in Beer is way higher than yours.
  • The average temperature in February is….um, how you say….damned cold! So, if you’re oot and aboot for more than five minutes, you’ll need a winter coat, gloves, scarves, full body long johns with a bum flap, and a toque, eh!
